PROCEDURES FLOOD CLEANUP:

1. Assessment

  • Greet customer and ask about the source of the water or flood
  • Sign work authorization sheet
  • Determine the Class and Category of loss
  • Using a water probe measure to determine the scope of the loss
  • Draw out a map of the areas affected
  • Record samples for monitoring and drying goals
  • Take room measurements
  • Use a camera to document initial conditions
  • Relative humidity is recorded on affected, unaffected, and outside conditions

2. Manipulation of contents

  • Ask customer for permission to move contents into drier areas
  • Take pictures of positioning of furniture and contents
  • Using dollies or proper lifting techniques move contents into unaffected areas
  • Raise materials onto blocks to allow for proper drying or removal of floor
  • Load contents into storage containers or off site if required
  • Raise containment barriers or cover contents if needed
  • Note storage of removed contents on check sheet

3. Implementation of Equipment

  • Remove dehumidifiers, air movers, and extractors from truck
  • All equipment is placed in the unaffected area for safety
  • Psychrometric assessment from a trained technician
  • Equipment is assigned to rooms for drying purposes
  • Cords, hoses, and tubes are taped down to avoid trip hazards
  • Equipment is run to assess electrical compatibility with breaker
  • Each dehumidifier is recorded for relative humidity
  • Make appointment with customer for monitoring and safe operation of drying equipment

4. Structure Drying

  • Typically we utilizes a Dri-Eaz 2400 (LGR) that pumps 146 pints per day
  • An Air mover should be placed in a room for every 10-16 linear feet of wall area
  • Extractors are deployed in the initial phase of removal of excess water
  • Dehumidifiers and air movers are used to dry the absorbed water that enters the floor
  • Class 1 Water loss require 100 pints be extracted per day, little extraction, and few air movers
  • Class 2 Water loss require 50 pints large amount of extraction, floating of carpet, blocking of furniture and many air movers
  • Class 3 Water loss require 40 pints large amount of extraction, removal of carpet, pad,
baseboards, as well as some wall materials and many air movers
  • Class 4 Water loss require 50 pints and the application of Air injection or extraction machinery;
    aka Specialty drying
  • Dehumidifiers and other drying equipment are added as needed according to
    Class drying requirements
  • Based upon the Category of loss apply anti-microbial to affected areas
  • Greater Categories of loss require more personal protective equipment used and
    care with disposal of wastes
  • Always remain safe and recommend vacancy for Category 2 > contaminations

5. Monitoring

  • Arrive on time for all customer appointments
  • Greet the customer and gain property access
  • Ask customer about any concerns about drying process
  • Address customer concerns and record them in job file
  • Record relative humidity readings on samples and equipment
  • Input data into the job file and note any changes to scope
  • Adjust or remove equipment as needed
  • Thank the customer and set next monitoring appointment

6. What are we trying to accomplish?

  • We want to meet industry standards of drying:
< 16% moisture content removes the possibility of fungal growth, dry/wet rot, and
alleviates cupping, crowning, buckling, and heaving
  • And above all we want to help people in their time of need
